The Rohingya and Myanmar Muslim community worldwide vehemently demand
the Governments of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei to boycott the SEA
Games of 2013 in Myanmar to show solidarity with the victims of violence
against Muslims by Buddhist Rakhine and the armed forces of Myanmar in
2012 and 2013. The Government of Myanmar has deprived Rohingya Muslims
the freedom of worship, and it has shut down Muslim places of worship,
schools, and places of burial. The Government of Myanmar has also
prohibited repairing or rebuilding of over 60 mosques that were burnt
down or destroyed by the radical Buddhist Rakhine extremists in
Arakan/Rakhine state.
In Metktila in Central Myanmar, the
Government has sentenced innocent Muslims to prison terms of up to 28
years; on the contrary, the Buddhist extremist who committed gruesome
murders of Muslim men, women, and children, and burned down several
mosques, were sentenced to only 3 years or less. The Muslim victims who
lost family members and homes and trapped in camps of internally
displaced persons (IDPs) are also not allowed to return to their
properties to rebuild their homes. The violation of basic human rights
against Rohingya Muslims in Arakan state has risen to the level of crime
against humanity, leading to rejection of seriously wounded or
critically ill Rohingya Muslim patients for treatment in the Government
hospitals and expulsion of those who were admitted to hospitals by some
staff members (of conscience) are humanly unthinkable. In numerous
cities throughout Myanmar the Government did not provide protection to
Muslim victims, rather brought up charges against hundreds of victims.
It is unconscionable that an overwhelming number of Buddhist-perpetrator
of crimes are not even questioned or detained by the Government of
Myanmar. During the violence against Muslims, the Government armed
forces stood and watched, and participated in the violence against
Muslims. It is alarming that the radical Buddhist monks who preached
hate and violence against Muslims in 2012, have returned to the street
to preach hate and violence again. The Government of Myanmar is also not
giving international aid groups and humanitarian assistance teams
unfettered access to violence-affected areas and Rohingya villages some
of which are virtually open-sky prisons. Brutal murders and atrocities
by Myanmar armed forces have been committed against Rohingya in IDP
camps in Arakan. Additionally, the properties and homes of the Rohingya
victims in several cities in Arakan have been auctioned through a
scheme set up by the Government officials.
The Rohingya and
Myanmar Muslim community worldwide unequivocally demands the Governments
and people of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei to show solidarity with
the Rohingya and Myanmar Muslim victims, reject the bigotry by the
Government of Myanmar, and boycott the SEA Games in 2013.
Sincerely Yours,
Boycott Sea Games 2013 Campaign
